Advantages and Disadvantages
With their size and eyesight, Giraffes have a huge advantage among other animals in the wild. Since their so tall, they dont need to worry about other animals taking there food. No other animals can reach into the trees and grab food like Giraffes. Instead of taking hours of searching for food, they can simply go to a nearby tree and eat off of it. Licking dew off of branches and eating various types of fruit and leaves helps giraffes get the strength, nutrients and liquids they need.
In addition, Giraffes have amazing eyesight, which allows them to spot predators coming from far away. This helps them because they have time to react quickly before predators attack. Also, male Giraffes have a huge advantage when looking for a mate. Their long necks help them fight other Giraffes to attract a female Giraffe. Another advantage with their neck that would also help them find a mate is a process called "neck rubbing." This is used when a male and a female Giraffe rub necks so the male Giraffe can show its strength to attract the female.
Despite their great eyesight and their height, a few advantages come along. First, they are not able to roam around all the land they have due to the habitat not fitting their needs. Also, it's very difficult and dangerous for Giraffes to bend down to drink water. A nearby predator can come by when the Giraffe is distracted and attack, and the Giraffe wont have enough time to turn it's back. Giraffes must be cautious of their surroundings, especially with their baby calves. Usually, another Giraffe guards the other while it drinks out of a water hole.
